Celebrity Grand Marshal Armistead Maupin, left and actress Laura Linney wave to the crowd at the 25th Annual San Francisco Gay Pride Parade which was held on Sunday, June 29, 2003 in downtown San Francisco, California. Maupin, a writer is best known for his series "Tales of the City" which was made into a PBS miniseries and eventually into a showtime miniseries. Linney starred as the lead character, Mary Ann Singleton. The parade ran along Market Street beginning at Beale Street in the Financial District and ending at the Civic Center where bandstands and booths were set up for blocks. Over 600,000 people were expected to attend.
